New ‘Interactive’ Google device with Soli and Zigbee support hits the FCC

We may be in for a Happy New Year with a new Google device hitting the FCC, which is very likely a new Nest Hub.

The filing for the device with model# GUIK2 lists it as an ‘Interactive Device’. The recent Nest Audio passed through the FCC listed as an ‘Interactive Media Streaming Device’ and other Nest smart displays and speakers have carried similar ‘Interactive’ descriptions.

The device includes Bluetooth, dual-band Wi-Fi support, and Zigbee, a wireless standard used for controlling smart home devices.

The device will include a screen with an e-label, with the filing referring directly to accessing it, and other information from the Home Screen.

An interesting inclusion in the documentation for the filing is possible support for Google’s ‘Soli’ radar gesture controls. Google has previously used the 58-63.5 GHz wireless range for Soli on the Pixel 4, and the new GUIK2 model also supports this range.

Google has previously included gesture control on the Nest hub Max letting you perform basic pause, play functions, inclusion of Soli radar may expand those gestures with more accuracy.

No rumours about a new Google device, let alone a launch date have even been circulated as yet, so this is a surprising new development this early in the year. With CES around the corner it iss possible we may see something launched around then, or Google may even line up for their own mini launch as well.
