Google has unveiled their mid-range Pixel 5a 5G this morning but only for the US and Japan.
The mid-range device is up for pre-order today on the Google Store for $449 USD with the phone going on-sale on August 26th.
Pixel 5a 5G
Google has improved a number of things over last years Pixel 4a 5G, adding in Water Resistance (IP67) for the first time ever on their A-Series line, as well as a larger display and a bigger battery. T
Google have stuck mostly to the same design as the original, though offer it now in ‘Mostly Black’, which Google says has ‘forest green undertones and an olive-colored Power button’, and it still retains the Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor on the rear unlike the upcoming Pixel 6. The phone now also includes a metal unibody with ‘Bio-Resin’ for a nicer finish.
Inside, the Pixel 5a 5G uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage with a 4,680mAh battery to keep it charged and a Titan M Security chip to keep it secure. The phone comes with a large 6.34″ FullHD resolution AMOLED display and also sports the headphone jack that’s beloved by fans of the A-Series.
For shutterbugs, you’ll find12.2MP (Main) and 16MP 9Ultra-Wide) sensors on the rear and an 8MP sensor on the front in a punch-hole notch in the display.

The phone is launching with Android 11, though it will of course be getting an update to Android 12 when it launches later this year. Google will keep the phone updated for 3 years with both monthly security updates (which includes Pixel Drops of new features, and at least another two OS updates.
Cases
Google is also updating the Pixel 5a 5G accessories, with a new line of cases which drop the fabric cases we’ve seen since the launch of the original Pixel.
Google says the new Pixel 5a Cases will be durable with a dual-layer design that includes a shock-absorbing interior and hard plastic outer shell. The new cases are also mindful of the environment and are made from recycled materials, with Google touting that each case is composed of over 34% recycled plastic by weight.
You can choose your own personal style, with four colours available: Black Moss: Dark green, Maybe Moon: Grey, Likely Lime: Light green, and Partially Pink: Blue/pink.
Google says the cases are also available to pre-order now from $29.
